This home is perfectly situated blocks from the boundary of Rocky Mountain National Park and across the street from the bank of the Big Thompson River. It’s is more than 100 years old, lovingly cared for and meticulously restored. Though it predates most buildings in the Estes Valley (and even the Town itself) it’s in great shape and has been been fully modernized for your comfort. The owner is a photographer by profession and has decorated the walls with his favorite images of the area.
You can watch the sun rise over the mountains from bed, eat breakfast while elk and deer mill about, hike into the National Park (either Beaver Meadows or to the top of Eagle Cliff Mountain) from the front door, and come home and watch the stars over the high peaks as you BBQ on the deck and listen to the sound of the river. You will love this cabin’s warmth, cleanliness, retro feel and authentic mountain vibe. It’s perfectly appointed with comfy furnishings, a fully stocked kitchen, a washer/dryer, and countless amenities so you can feel at home during your mountain getaway in Estes Park.
Recent improvements include updated lighting, a brand new smart TV, a new, luxurious queen bed in the upstairs lofted bedroom, twinkly, cozy lights throughout, and super fast WiFi with no dead zones.
You will enjoy a master bedroom, a full bathroom with toilet/shower/tub, a utility room with a washer/dryer and a shower, a living room with games, puzzles and a smart TV, a dining area with seating for 6, a vintage rock fireplace that will take you back in time, two screened in porches, and a big wrap-around deck with a picnic table and BBQ.
A favorite feature is the wraparound deck, which offers a straight view of Hallet Peak glistening in the morning sunrise and glowing beneath the Milky Way at night. There’s a picnic table and BBQB there so you can relax, read, watch wildlife roaming around, stare at the mountains and stars, and just chill out and enjoy the peace and quiet. When the Milky Way rises, you’ll see more stars than most people ever have in their lives. You’ll often feel like you’re in a zoo; because the national park boundary is literally a few blocks away, herds of deer and elk are constantly roaming around.
Venture into the living room on colder days and relax on two super comfy recliners or on a luxuriously soft leather sofa in front of the fireplace. Twinkly lights overhead light up the space, and a cool vintage Edison-bulb chandelier puts off a cool old-school vibe. There is no drywall — it’s all warm, cozy and inviting wood. Local art adorns the walls and a smart television hangs above the fireplace, so you can stream pretty much anything you’d like with your friends and family. There’s a small library of puzzles and games for when you want to detach from technology.
The master bedroom has a sofa, huge king bed, reading chair, interesting bookshelf, and mid-century modern fireplace. It opens directly onto the huge wrap-around deck. Two more can sleep in the living room sleeping area, and an upstairs loft offers a cozy reading and rec area complete with a small dormer to sit in and drink tea. If you like to get in touch with nature’s daily rhythms, stare out the skylight above.
A FEW REVIEWS
This place is timeless and so warm. We went out for shopping and activities each day, looking forward to tying up the day with a fire in the fireplace and enjoying each other’s company. We want to come back at different times of the year to enjoy other seasons and can’t imagine staying anywhere else!
NOTE BEFORE BOOKING
Loft
The master bedroom is on the first floor but you must climb the ladder to get to the lofted reading and rec area, where headroom is limited. The home is a very useable 1,334 square feet but it may seem smaller due to the funky a-frame construction in the loft.
Fires
This is an old, old home!! The living room fireplace is original and does not burn efficiently. Wood logs, especially when wet, will smoke out the house. You may only burn Duraflame or equivalent woodchip/sawdust logs in the living room fireplace. You can burn regular logs in the bedroom fireplace.
Neighborhood
By booking, you are agreeing to the house and neighborhood rules at the bottom of the listing. You MUST read them, as this property is located in an HOA neighborhood containing other vacation homes nearby. See the bottom of the listing description.
